Hi, I’m Carla and I'm a Houston-based designer originally from El Paso.
I build brands, design pages (both digital and print), and edit video. My current role is in commercial real estate as the Creative Manager at Stream Realty's Houston office, but I started out freelancing for small businesses that needed someone to make their ideas look and feel like something real.
My approach to design comes from visiting Oaxaca, where I learned about the art of carving alebrijes. Alebrijes are brightly painted wooden creatures, a Mexican folk-art tradition. What stuck with me was the process: artisans work with branches of copal wood, often cut by someone else. The branches arrive at the artist's table already bent, twisted, and full of character. The artist doesn't force a shape onto the wood, they carve and carve until the wood reveals what it wants to become.
That's how I think about design. I'm not the creator of the story. I'm the one who digs, carves, and asks enough questions until it starts to emerge on its own. I think of every project as an act of translation, where vision becomes language. Every story evolving into shapes, colors, text, and motion. Each a chord aiming to strike meaning.
I like structure. I like heart. I like when both show up in the same piece. If you have a story that needs shaping, I'd love to hear it.
